Backflip: Travis Pastrana and Aaron Fotherinham

Continuing with the backflip videos, this time there are two totally different backflips but both require guts and deserve lots of respect. The first video shows the famous Freestyle MX double backflip in X Games 12 competition. Travis Pastrana first landed a double backflip in his film Nitro Circus 3. On August 4, 2006, at X Games 12 in Los Angeles, he became the first rider to land a double backflip in competition. Of course he won the competition. The second video show a young man named Aaron Fotherinham that shows us some skills and tricks in the skatepark on his wheelchair and yes, last year Aaron Fotherinham landed first wheelchair backflip.

If you feel like you need to know what it takes to make a double backflip on a motorcycle then read this. If you have a bad stomach just skip to the video.

Freestyle MX looks like it is one of the most dangerous sports out there. The height riders get and the heavy piece of equipment under them. And by reading the list of Travis Pastrana injuries it becomes clear it not just looks but it actually is one hell of a test for the body and mind. Travis Pastrana medical record includes multiple concussions, a broken back, and severe knee problems due to cartilage degeneration. When he was only 14 years old he took part in the 1998 Triple Crown event in Lake Havasu. Travis jumped a 120-foot ramp, came up short and crashed. The crash was so severe that he separated his spine from his pelvis. He was in coma for two weeks and in a wheel chair for three months. According to the doctors that treated him only three people in United States survived that kind of injury.

Travis Pastrana: “I was in and out of consciousness for about three days and had six blood transfusions, I don’t remember most of the injuries there have been so many.”

The list goes on… dislocated spine, torn ACL, PCL, LCL, MCL , broken tibia, broken fibula, two times left wrist surgery, once left thumb surgery, two back surgeries, one right elbow surgery, nine left knee surgeries, six right knee surgeries, one shoulder surgery.

If you still feel like making double backflips on a motorcycle, this is how its done:
