The surf industry fat wallets and big dogs again met at the SIMA summit. (SIMA stands for surf industry manufacturers association or something like that…) The talked business, surfing, money…hell, we have no idea what they talked about :). But they did pick this years Image awards winners.

This was the sixth time the Image awards were given to surf companies that did something special, like the best wetsuit, best boardshorts etc… Anyway, we can wait to see who the winners were so we know what to buy next time we stumble into a surf shop :). Here goes, a list of things that do not suck:

Insight – Breakthrough Brand of the Year

Surfside Sports, Costa Mesa – Breakthrough Retailer of the Year

RVCA – Men’s Apparel Brand of the Year

Insight’s “ZOUP” Campaign – Men’s Marketing Campaign of the Year

Advantage by Hurley – Men’s Boardshort of the Year

Active Ride Shop – Men’s Retailer of the Year

Billabong Girls – Women’s Apparel Brand of the Year

Billabong Girls “Overload” – Women’s Marketing Campaign of the Year

L*Space – Women’s Swim Brand of the Year

Sun Diego – Women’s Retailer of the Year

These are especially interesting and actually can have some value if you are deciding what to buy – product awards

Sonic Recycler Boardshort by Billabong – Environmental Product of the Year

Sidewalk Surfers by Sanuk – Footwear Product of the Year

Channel Islands Biscuit – Surfboard Model of the Year

Infiniti Drylock by XcelWetsuit of the Year

There were five nominees in each category and all SIMA member companies were allowed to cast their vote. That means over 300 companies.
