Video: Introduction to Sea Kayaking for Beginners

sea kayaking guide video

This video was made during a 5 days sea kayaking trip around Rab island in the Adriatic sea. It covers pretty much everything a beginner must know about sea kayaking before paddling out for the first time. And it does it in a funny way while showing you the amazing views and seascape of the Northern Adriatic sea. You will find out everything I wanted to know when I started sea kayaking:

If you are wondering if sea kayaking is something that you could do then read this.

Sea kayaking or to be more exact the part of sea kayaking that is basically paddling your kayak over calm water is not difficult. I think anyone can do it. You need some basic balance and coordination not to roll over and to paddle to move forward. Yes, there is a proper paddling technique that will help you paddle faster over longer distances without getting tired and there are all sorts of skills on how to maneuver your kayak that you can master. But even a complete beginner when put inside a kayak will be able to move forward and go somewhere.

There is however another part of sea kayaking that is more demanding. The sea can turn from a flat as a pancake lake into a wild blown out monster in a matter of minutes. This is where sea kayaking can become dangerous and planing and experience is needed to avoid situations like these (best option) or safely get out of them.

Anyway, if you are thinking about trying it or if you already did a couple of trips and you have lots of question (like we did), then this video will hopefully answer them.

For a more detailed guide to sea kayaking for beginners I suggest you check this guide on DryTide website. They also make one of the best sea kayaking dry bags that at the same time also look good.
