A Quick Bio

Anastasia Ashley was born on February 10, 1987 in a surf town of San Clemente, California. She started swimming at age 2, and was body boarding by age 3. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Hawaii where she started to learn how to surf. There were only a few female surfers at that time, so she mostly competed against the guys. She has been surfing in competitions since she was 7 years old and quickly threw some spray, turned some heads and landed some sweet sponsor deals. Her list of sponsors include Oakley, Infinity Surfboards, Airwalk and PowerBar. And her plans and goals for the future? Nothing less than becoming a world champion.

What's New With Ashley?

Among recent Anastasia Ashley news - she just got her own signature shoe from Airwalk. Airwalk came out with two new signature shoe models - one is shaped by the foot of one pro skateboarder Andy Macdonald and the second one is shaped by the lovely foot of one pro surfer Anastasia Ashley.

So if you can't live without a pair Anastasia Ashley's, you can get them at Stride Rite stores from July 2008 on. One warning for all the guys out there - these are girls shoes :). They have a glitzy star logo and three different styles: Skate Lace ($40), brown lace up sneaker ($30), and a ballet flat ($30). And Anastasia's comment on the shoes? “I was so honored to design my own shoes—my personality is really reflected in each style,” Ashley said. “I love the pink-and-brown combinations, and the silhouettes are totally laid back and all about the surf lifestyle.”

These boardshorts have just won the "Men’s Boardshort of the Year" image award. So what is so special about Hurley Advantage Boardshorts? The fabric! The surf industry fat wallets and big dogs again met at the SIMA summit. (SIMA stands for surf industry manufacturers association or something like that...) The talked business, surfing, money...hell, we have no idea what they talked about :). But they did pick this years Image awards winners.

Double Decade by Mack Dawg

We can still remember the snowboard movie that commemorated the first ten years of making snowboard movies of Mack Dawg. It was and early May afternoon in a snowboard shop in a France ski resort of Tignes where we were spending our European snowboarding holly days. The crowds left, only a few lifts were open, and it was pleasantly warm. Tired after a long day of snowboarding (and after 15 days of snowboarding) we wandered through some kind of shopping center with our friend. Most of the shops were closed for the season and so was this snowboard shop. Bolted shut with iron grid over the windows. But the TV was on and the Mack Dawg Decade movie just started. When we think of it, remembering all that after 10 years - that must have been a great way to see a snowboard movie. This is how every snowboard movie should be watched. Hell this is the way every movie should be watched :)!. Tired, sunburned, snowboarded out and no worries on the face of the planet.

Now comes a shocking reminder that we are ten years older that we were that early May afternoon and that would make us feel a bit melancholic if the reason for this post wouldn't be the next Decade snowboard movie - Double Decade.

Double Decade commemorates twenty long years of Mack Dawgs snowboard movie bussines. In this time (well, to be honest it didn't take 20 years, more like 4 or 5) Mack Dawg crew became the most famous, the most influential and the most watched production house in the snowboard movie bussines. And they have lots of great clips to prove it.

Double Decade is coming out this fall so we still have some time to adjust to the "we are 10 years older than we were when we watched Decade" state of mind, for the rest of you enjoy the teaser:

Who says that Hawaii is to warm to make decent wetsuits. People from XCEL wetsuits can obviously find motivation even in mild and warm weather. They have just claimed their second in a row "Best Wetsuit of The Year" award for their Infiniti Wetsuit.

It seem that tattoos are the recent trend in surf wear industry. After some tattooed board shorts and other clothes, Dragon decided it was time to tattoo your eye wear. Dragon has teamed up with Mike GIANT and has just released their 2.500 limited edition Mike GIANT Calavera sunglasses.

We keep hearing that standup paddling is a great workout for your body, especially for your core muscles. To prove it Surftech took part in the 2008 Ford Ironman event held in Tempe, Arizona where they let the athletes test a couple of their stand up paddle surfboards.  For many of them, Surftech’s involvement in the event was their first introduction to standup paddling. And the response? “It's an amazing workout”, comments Heather Fuhr, 2008 Ironman Hall of Fame inductee, “You’re just working your core the whole time”. “It’s so much fun, and such a great workout!”, commented Megan Flanagan of Austin Texas who won her age group in Tempe in her first ever Ironman event. “ I can’t wait to get a standup board back home to train on”.

Womens wetsuit market is much better than it was years ago but still - sometimes it is hard for a girl to find a top-end wetsuit. All the latest innovations usually go into mens wetsuits, womens wetsuits are most of the time a few steps behind. Gul is in our opinion one of those a bit under the radar but still very good wetsuit manufacturer and they came up with an affordable, top end multi-sport wetsuit for girls.

For a while now all hot surfing fans are able to put their money where their mouth is. How? You can bet on surfing. Since  there is now another way to waste your money :) we can at least take a look at the odds. For the world title Kelly Slater is top, best bet you can make will give you 2.3$ for one buck. Bookmakers feel that unless Slater gets injured he is a walk in for a 9th world title. We'll see. Until then you can also try Teahupoo where again Kelly Slater is a tight favorite at 4.50.

Wave pools. Yuck. Who needs them. Well, just about any surfer that lives more than an hour away from the beach :). We already mentioned the biggest wave pool in the United Sates and another kind of wave pool, that is not an actual pool - in London surfers will be able to surf the Thames river. The company behind the first one is called Liquid Evolution Adventure Parks (LEAP) and they just launched their own website.

Ouch! It's that time again we guess. It's  "not snowboarding" but  "watching snowboard teasers instead of snowboarding" season. Yuck. Well at least we can look forward to some nice clips and what better way to start than with KnockOut - The Tenth Round.
