#21: The Smallest Waves on the Smallest Surfboard

We were on the island, minding our own business, planing to go to the beach for a swim and some snorkeling. Then some mountain biking the next day etc… I knew there was some wind in the forecast, but clearly not enough to seriously think about going surfing. Checked the webcam in the morning…yeah, nothing worth driving there.

On the way to some mountain biking trails on Krk island.

But then my friend texted me: “I’m going there to check, can I borrow your board?”. “Sure!”. Hm…if my board is going, then I’m going. We have a board on the wall here…the just is case surfboard. Just in case you are here, waves appear that you thought would not and you are stuck here without a board. The just in case surfboard was on the wall for quite some time. The only time we used it was to take some street carving photos on a skateboard. You know, the fake I’m going surfing with my longboard ones And now the board will hit the waves on this island for the first time.

The biggest small wave I’ve caught and a 5’10” under my feet.

The waves were really small. Like barely breaking small. Just some foam randomly appearing small. Two waves had to combine into one just to catch it small. And damn…so was the surfboard. It’s a 5’10” and not especially fat. Just a regular shortboard with a bit wider nose. Not the best board to have as a just in case surfboard haha. I huge foamy mini malibu would be a much better choice. But Miha cought and rode a few, I caught and rode a few and Taja caught and rode a few, the sun was shining, it was hot, the water was boardshorts warm, and there was almost no wind on the beach. A perfect summer day in September.

There was some wind the next day, but this time it was not enough. BTW that’s DryTide 30 L dry bag.
