Yes, I work. I get “What do you do?” questions all the time. Well, I have regular job and lately we have been swamped with work. So I had to miss two sweet session in the local pond. All I could pull out of a good two day south “swell” was a Friday afternoon jump to catch the remains of the dying swell in northern Italy. It takes longer for the waves to get there, so when spots further south are already too small you can surf here. And it’s a beachbreak…so even tiny ripples eventually break into something surfable.
Well, the waves were nothing special, I mean…it was glassy, the lines were nice, it was sunny, warm, without a trace of wind. Sounds perfect. But gently sloping sand bottom around here makes these waves flat and all over the place. Still it was a fun session. What was more striking was the color of the water. Damn, I am used to water being brown around here, but this was something else. This surf spot lies right next to a river mouth and after some heavy rain the river was spewing loads of mud right onto the spot. The sea color was something between coffee, latte macchiato and poop. The mud was so dense you lost the sight of your hands as soon as you put them underwater. Fish could not see where they were swimming so they kept bumping into me and jumping out of the water. Weird and unique session.
