When you are so stoked on the trip that you just did, that you jump at the first opportunity to at least partly repeat it. And this opportunity presented itself just 4 days after we got home from Sardinia :))).
This time the goal was Tuscany. First we did some mountain biking near Livorno. Thanks to Trailforks and Trailguide finding at least one or two trails wasn’t that hard. What was hard was not getting shot by hunters hunting wild boar. Honestly, the trail that we picked went straight through the area that the hunters picked for a huge wild board hunt that day. Pedaling up the hill we could hear hunters yelling, dogs barking, shots being fired…it sounded like a war zone. Combine that with a few warnings from random people that it is not the best idea to ride through the area we stopped at the top of the trail. I tried to pull together all my Italian language skills and tried to find out from a few hunters standing there where is a safe way to go down, thanks to some Italian mountainbikers we managed to interpret the answers correctly :). Fun times in the thick Mediterranean bush.
Evening unexpectedly brought first small waves with amazing sunset colors flowing from orange to purple. Tuscany sunsets never disappoint. Sunday was full on surfing with two sessions. Smaller and completely glassy morning one, and bigger a bit messy one in the afternoon.
Monday was even bigger. It is hard to get up early in the cold winter morning but if you don’t, you are always sorry later. The waves were glassy early in the morning, but while we were deciding whether to crawl from the warm bed or not, suddenly the camper van started to shake. From zero to 20 knots wind in a second. In 15 minutes all the early birds were out of the water. What followed was “the search” through Tuscany and a challenging session at one of the southern beachbreaks. Ah, good times.
