Review: OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro (Frameless)

This is the second item that I got from OutdoorMaster. The first one was the Kelvin ski helmet, you can check the review of it here.  Since the helmet was a pleasant surprise I expected the OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro to be good as well (I got the classic version of the goggles), even though the price is really affordable. And they did not disappoint, again goggles that you can get for less than 50€ that have everything a much more expensive ski goggles have. Plus there is also a discount code at the end of this article that will give you an extra 15% OFF!  Goggles are really well made, they look good, have a wide viewing angle for unobstructed view, fit good with any helmet, have interchangeable lenses that can be easily detached and reattached using magnets, offer 100% UV protection and more. If you are still not convinced, lets go into details.

Protection

Ski goggles must protect your eyes from the wind while skiing or snowboarding and must reduce the glare and brightness from the sun which can be especially annoying in white snow that additionally reflects the light and makes sunny days even brighter. The thing that ski goggles must be good at as well and you wont notice just by looking at the goggles is UV protection. High in the mountains the UV rays are especially strong. These days it’s hard to find goggles that don’t offer UV protection but be sure to check. OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro offer 100% UV400 protection thanks to special coating over the lenses.

OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro Features

Construction

These goggles are really well made. Material used is Thermoplastic Polyurethane for the frame and Polycarbonate for the lenses. These are pretty standard materials used in most of ski and snowboard goggles. Goggles are frameless meaning from the outside it looks like the lens covers the whole goggles. There is no frame around the large spherical lens. This gives you a bit wider viewing angle and truly unobstructed view of the slopes. Of course there is a frame under the lens. Here is where the second really neat feature comes in play.

Interchangeable Lens System using Magnets

OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro and interchangeable lens with magnets
Lens snaps on and is hold in place with 8 magnets.

Lens is attached to the frame using eight magnets placed around the frame and eight magnets placed on the lens itself. The design of the frame and the lens helps you attach the lens to the frame without any problems. You can’t position the lens wrong even if you try. It just jumps and snaps into place. Using magnets for attaching the lens means that if you pull on the lens hard enough it will also easily come off. Magnets are powerful enough so you don’t loose the lens no matter what you do when skiing, but on the other hand not so strong that removing the lens would be hard. This makes the lenses on OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro really interchangeable. You often get two different lenses with your ski goggles, usually one for sunny weather and one for fog. But lots of time swapping lenses is a pain in the ass and you rarely really do it. But with magnet system like in OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro you can really use different lenses for different conditions or just to spice up your goggles. So good job OM!

OutdoorMaster of course offers a wide range of different lenses that you can get with your goggles. There are more than 20 different lenses available, they go with different goggle colors, you can also upgrade your lens for a better one.

Over the Glasses (OTG)

These goggles are designed so that they can be worn over your prescription glasses. I don’t wear glasses so I could no try this, but it even says on their website up to what size glasses can fit inside these goggles so I though this was a nice thing to mention.

Fogging

All OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles Pro lenses are anti fog coated. I did some hiking in them and I hand no fogging problems. By the way, another benefit of the lens being easily detachable is how easy it is to clean it. Just make sure you use a really soft cloth so you don’t remove/damage the anti fog coating.

Helmet Compatibility

One annoying problem that can occur is that when you put on your helmet and ski goggles there is a small gap between the helmet and the top of the goggles. This is where the cold wind hits your forehead in and in cold weather it is really annoying. This can be the fault of the helmet, goggles or both. The shape of these goggles is pretty standard so they should fit with any helmet. Of course they fit perfectly with the Kelvin ski helmet also made by OutdoorMaster (tested) and I think they would with other helmets as well. The strap has silicone print on the inside that prevents it from slipping up and down the helmet.

Pros and Cons

Throughout the review I have said only good things about these goggles. If I would have to find some cons then maybe two things – if you are removing the goggles using only one hand, lets say your other hand is full, you will pull on them unevenly, grabbing only one end of the goggles. This can bend the frame and when it bends a lot the magnets can’t hold the lens any longer and the lens can partially pop out. When the goggles straighten back the lens snaps back into place. It’s a side effect of otherwise amazing system. It’s not a problem, just something I’ve noticed. And the second thing, this depends on your head size and helmet size, but together with the Kelvin helmet the goggles can sit a bit low on your face putting a little bit of pressure on your nose. You can easily adjust the helmet to go a bit higher and so will the goggles so this can be solved quickly.

Also, I the goggles are labeled as Ski Goggles Pro but of course they can be used for snowboarding as well.

Final Words

Really good goggles especially considering the price. If you are looking for quality affordable ski or snowboarding goggles these are it: good construction, unobstructed field of view, UV protection, anti-fog coating, OTG, interchangeable lenses, helmet fit, lots of colors and different styles. And there is an extra discount code that you can use!
