A while ago I got my hands on 30 South Originals RX Sunglasses. I have heard about the brand a couple of times and always loved the name, I’m not sure why. 30 South just kind of smells of exploration. I also saw their sunglasses before, so when I got the chance to check them out I gladly took it. I usually use sunglasses when sea kayaking, driving my car or just when I am near the sea before or after surfing, snorkeling… things like that. 30 South makes lots of sunglasses that are sports specific. They make sunglasses for Trail Running, Cycling, Golf, Fishing, Running and Mountain Biking. Although I do mountain bike a lot, more than any other sport actually, I use goggles and a full face helmet for that. Since I don’t do other sports I went for the for their Originals model. 30 South Originals RX are classic stylish looking sunglasses that you can wear just about anywhere. On the beach, in the city, on the sea… maybe because of the colorful lenses they would get a few looks if I wore them to office. But then again, so what:).
Sunglasses come in a hard shell case so they are well protected. Inside the case the sunglasses are stored inside a really cool looking and colorful cloth pouch. Here you can see the sunglasses and the pouch laying on top of my sea kayak (colorful flowers).
If you ever need good sunglasses it is when you are on the sea on a sunny day. Sun reflecting from the sea surface will have you squinting most of the time and that is super annoying. A trucker hat and a pair of sunglasses are a must. A two day paddle to a deserted island was therefore a perfect way to test these sunglasses and see how they work.

So what can I say about them? Originals RX are really comfortable to wear and protect your eyes from the sun. Since they are not closed on the sides sun will get in them from certain angles but that’s obviously normal with these kind of designs. If you want side protection from the sun and also from dust a debris then you should check some of their other sunglasses or even special tactical sunglasses that are used in military.
They look really well made, the frame is a special kind of plastic (!?) called ADvX that is light, a bit flexible and almost indestructible. Hinges offer just the right resistance and it looks like they will last.
Lenses are polarized and will tint the world a bit in the color of the lens. The colors, the contrasts, the picture clarity… are awesome. Lenses are supposed to be shatterproof and highly scratch resistant but I admit that I did not try to scratch my new sunnies on purpose:). Maybe I’ll update this later when I use them a while longer.
They are not the cheapest sunglasses out there but still they are very affordable especially for the quality they bring so I would recommend them to anyone looking for stylish and durable sunglasses that you can wear anywhere.
