Most people may not associate mountain biking with Texas, but this state offers riders of all experience levels a number of great spots to enjoy some of the best scenery around. Ranging from flat to more challenging terrain, riders will enjoy exploring the unique landscape right from their bikes. Whether you are sailing from Galveston, landing in Dallas, or visiting anywhere in between, this is a great opportunity to get your feet on the ground and see the massive variety that Texas mountain biking has to offer. You may find it a bit overwhelming when deciding where to travel, but we’ve tried to make it easier by narrowing down our favorite spots as well as a few helpful tips.

There are many mountain biking trails in Texas that offer diverse terrain and beautiful scenery. Some of the most popular trails include the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, and Reveille Peak Ranch. Each of these biking trails offers unique features and terrain for all skill levels. Let’s take a quick look at each.

  • Enchanted Rock State Natural Area- Located 18 miles north of Fredericksburg, this massive pink granite dome has been a landmark for centuries. From its summit, you will find stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The park also features hiking trails, camping sites, and a variety of rock climbing routes.
  • Palo Duro Canyon State Park- Located about 30 miles south of Amarillo, this second largest canyon displays spectacular views of jaw dropping rock formation that you can ride! Plan ahead and pack accordingly as this trail can reach scorching temperatures during the summer.
  • Reveille Peak Ranch- This challenging but scenic ride winds through the picturesque Texas Hill Country and is located just outside of Burnet. The trail itself is about 12 miles long and offers a combination of flat to steep terrain, making it a great option for experienced riders who are looking for a workout, as well as for beginners who want to enjoy a beautiful ride.

Preparing for Your Biking Trip

When it comes to packing, many experienced travelers will agree that less is better.
