As FCS did last year they did again this year. To cash in Kelly Slaters latest world title, they released new fins, which are exactly the same as Kelly Slater rode them to his eight world title. If last year they were more a congratulations set of fins, these now are really new.
FCS releases new Kelly Slater K-3 fins
Kelly Slater K3 fin is available in Performance Glass for a stiff, traditional feel. This model is the exact same fin that Kelly Slater rode to his 8th world title. The other option is K3 with precision molded Glass Flex material which mimics the flex properties of glass. The FCS Flex fixture was used to measure the flex pattern of Kelly’s magic set so that the same flex pattern could be engineered into the Glass Flex version.
The K3 fin template is a bit deeper and features slightly less base area with a smaller, more raked tip than the K2.1. This provides drive and the ability to draw out longer arcing turns. The rigid base, combined with a tapered flexible tip, results in a progressive flex pattern for quick rail to rail transitions and forgiving performance in sticky situations.
This combined with the responsive materials of Glass Flex and Performance Glass produces a fin that turns incredibly tight through snaps. The K3 features 8 concentric circles to represent Kelly’s 8 world titles.
Kelly Slater says: “These fins are perfect for down the line walls and long turns. I actually started using this fin 3 years ago when I needed a better fin for the long walled waves at Rincon. I’ve been on this same set of fins for over three years. They’ve been my magic set. I originally designed the K2.1 with beach breaks and barrels in mind, and I still use them in these sorts of conditions. With the K3’s and the K2.1’s you should be set for pretty much any sort of waves you find.”
“Kelly’s really put this design to the test over the past 3 years. He has had a lot of CT wins on them: J-bay twice, Bells this year, and Trestles last year-just to name a few. We’re really excited to offer them up on his behalf. They complete the fin quiver that he draws from on tour,” said FCS’s Tyler Callaway.
