After 3 not so epic session in our backyard it was time to again go west. The forecast looked perfect for Tuscany – wave making onshore wind at night, no wind and glass during daytime. Saturday forecast looked a bit on the “maybe I should bring the fat board” side, but when we arrived to the spot the waves were pumping. West coast of Italy has been blessed with a really sick winter so far. Lots of time the MSW forecast looks more like Hossegor than Italy. Thick lips, no wind, lots of paddling, sore ribs. We surfed a good 3 hours until the afternoon wind kicked in. After lunch and some driving around and searching for protected spot around Livorno we returned to the spot that we have checked first. This happens like…always.
Sunday was time to sleep in. The wind should die down during the day so there was no need to hurry. But opening the window around 8am we were greeted by clear blue skies and no wind. Breakfast and packing were put into fifth gear and before 9am we were already on the cliffs overlooking the point. Massive bumpy lines were rolling over the spot and you could see the river like current sweeping south towards the rocks and cliffs. Am…maybe we wait a little. Around noon it was game one, waves dropped a bit, lines became cleaner and I had one of the sickest session ever on the west coast of Italy. Long right hand walls that looked like something from Indo at the peak. Session went on into the sunset and waves got even better. Such a sick day:) and one of the biggest surfable days I have seen in Tuscany.
