Why Croatia Is the Perfect Place for a Sailing Vacation

Little seaside towns in Croatia

Who doesn’t like the idea of sailing away into a beautiful sunset? Lounging on the deck of your private yacht and dropping anchor at a new port every night, a sailing vacation is the perfect marriage of luxury and adventure; and with its beautiful clear water, blue skies, and pristine, natural islands, where better to set off than the beautiful coastlines of Croatia?

Sun, sun, sun

One of the toughest parts of picking a vacation spot is getting the timing right. There’s only so much time you can book off work, and planning around the school schedule is a nightmare. Then when you finally find a time that suits everybody you find out that it’s monsoon season in Thailand again. Whoops. Luckily for you, the largest and most popular of Croatia’s coastal regions, Dalmatia, has an average of 250 sun-soaked days a year. So even in the off-season, you won’t have to gamble with the weather and can even get a nice bargain on a yacht charter!

A new adventure every day

When you charter a sailing boat in Croatia, you are always on the move and ready to explore. Croatia has over one thousand islands, more than any other country in the Mediterranean, so there will always be something new to see and discover. From national parks like Mljet and stunning vistas in the form of the Kornati archipelago to tiny uninhabited beaches for soaking up the sun or your own private cove to snorkel in, every day is an adventure.

Fabulous Food

With lots of fresh fish, local ingredients and Mediterranean flavors, the food of Croatia is as healthy as it is tasty. They are renowned for their award-winning wines and olive oils, regularly scooping up awards at international competitions. There is a variety to be had here too, in the North, you can find lots of Italian influences, think fresh pasta and white truffles. While in the South it’s all about the fish. Caught fresh and sourced locally, Croatia specializes in delicacies made with squids, prawns, and octopuses.

Whether you choose to picnic on the beach, berth at one of the many coastal towns and sample the local restaurants, or even book a chef to accompany you on your yacht, the delicacies of Croatian cuisine are not easily forgotten.

Sublime Sights

There is much more to be seen in Croatia than the country’s stunning coasts. Venture inland and you’ll find an incredible variety of things to do and sights to behold. There are national parks that will take your breath away, crisscrossed with rivers and running waterfalls, as well as the therapeutic hot springs and turquoise pools. The diversity of wildlife makes Croatia feel like a real-world paradise, and if you know how to take a good travel photo, you’ll have memories to last a lifetime.

Anchor up in the likes of Dubrovnik or Split and you’ll also be treated to some of the worlds best-preserved Roman architecture. Diocletian’s Palace in Split has survived more than 1500 years, and the city walls of Dubrovnik are often referred to as one of the greatest protection systems of the Middle Ages.

Not much of a history buff? Then how about exploring the setting of Game of Thrones King’s Landing, or the last Jedis city of Canto Bight which were both filmed in the historic town of Dubrovnik. There is something for everyone, and there’s no better way to get around and see the sights than on a sailing yacht.
